Catch That Rain in Barrels!
Hi there! My name is Jessica and I am reaching out from Solana Center, a local environmental non-profit. We run a program in partnership with the County of San Diego's Watershed Protection Program that focuses on water harvesting and offers discounted rain barrels to eligible residents.
In preparation for the rainy season, we are holding an event in Lakeside on February 6th to easily distribute rain barrels to residents who order online in advance. Unincorporated County residents can purchase a rain barrel for as low as $25. All residents are eligible for the $35 rain barrel rebate from the Metropolitan Water District’s SoCal WaterSmart program allowing them to pay just $55 per rain barrel on up to 2 rain barrels per household.
Rain barrels are wonderful for San Diego homeowners or businesses to save money while reusing water resources on their property, reducing waste and keeping harmful pollutants from reaching nearby waterways. Rainwater harvesting is important to encourage the infiltration of water into the soil, conserving San Diego's fresh water resources and naturally recharging groundwater - increasingly important after such a devastating fire season. This leads to healthy landscapes and pollution-free waterways while saving homeowners money on future water bills by providing chemical-free rainwater to be used on lawns and gardens.
