Today in the Garden
December
It’s time to trim the tree - not in the garden, but one inside where friends and family gather for holiday festivities. This month gardeners happily join with everyone in seasonal celebrations. Still it’s wise to keep an eye on the skies to be sure landscapes get the water required and the protection needed in a cold spell. When shopping for gifts at a favorite nursery, pick-up some cool-season color to brighten beds and borders until spring. End this joyous season looking forward to a new gardening year, with all its promise and pleasures ahead.
- Collect Rainwater
Even though we only get about 11 inches of rain a year, saving it in rain barrels is still a great idea. Check around, your city might be offering rebates!
- Gold Spotted Oak Borer
To stop this insect from spreading to other areas in southern California, purchase oak firewood locally and don’t move firewood.
- Muhlenbergia dubia
One of our favorite grasses for the summer dry garden.
